About Philmona
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology candidate. I have many years of experience in various healthcare fields including developing mental health support service strategies for Black communities. I hold a Masters of Health Ethics, a Masters of Public Health, a Diploma in Applied Ethics and a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry.
My practice is informed by my own immigrant and diasporic experiences, having navigated immigration to Canada from Zimbabwe as a racialized woman. I am attentive to challenges that migration and diaspora has on each of our individual journeys. I believe in working to build an inclusive community invested in mental health and collective well-being. My approach to mental health strategies also includes thinking about the place of generational trauma and complex traumas.
My education, professional training in healthcare, and experiences as a Black woman in many different geographic locations have shaped me to have a strong understanding and the need for tailored mental health strategies to develop culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed care. Working collaboratively, we can address your therapeutic goals and develop new skills for long-term realization of your goals.
